Basically, IoT works quite simply: Sensors attached to "things" collect data that is transferred to the Internet - for example via mobile communication technology - and then analyzed and stored in the cloud. On this basis, new, monetarily relevant business potentials emerge: sensor data are transformed into knowledge from which new business models can be derived.

ROBIOTIC has in-depth expertise in the field of sensor technology: Hoffmann + Krippner, part of the ROBIOTIC joint venture, has been manufacturing and developing sensors for 30 years and cooperates with many other suppliers in this demanding field. For decades, industrial customers have relied on the special solutions designed at the Buchen site in the Odenwald, Germany, region. So we know exactly what we are talking about with this special hardware component.
The application possibilities of our sensor hardware in IoT applications are almost unlimited. Our in-house produced, patented Sensofoil® and Sensoink® sensors are based on a special foil potentiometer technology and are produced customer-specifically according to the requirements of the IoT project. We can fall back on a large number of already realized geometries, assemblies and production resources. An advantage that makes our high-performance sensor portfolio really affordable.

The right sensor selection
The first step within the IoT process chain is also one of the most important: The selection of the right sensors for the intended data acquisition is a basic prerequisite for obtaining valid measurement results and thus high-quality data. Our experienced team of engineers takes care of the right sensor selection and the sensible adaptation of the sensor data. This is a decisive point for the success of your IoT project: If the data is not measured and recorded in the required quality right from the start, it becomes all the more difficult to set up an artificial intelligence on the basis of the following data analysis that provides valid future prospects - and thus makes new, financially attractive business models possible in the first place.
Experts call sensors the "eyes and ears” of the Internet of Things. They determine the amounts of information that make big data analysis for IoT applications possible in the first place: Geotracking; measurement of temperature, pressure, sound or vibration; environmental sensors for smart home applications; sensors that detect whether parking spaces are occupied or free; sensors that monitor the activity status of machines or the level of material containers: There are over 35 different sensor types, some of them highly complex, for recording a wide variety of application data. We master all of them and thus cover all conceivable measuring points for your IoT project. It goes without saying that we ensure that the price/performance ratio is optimally adapted to the customer's needs.
Powerful sensors are the indispensable prerequisite for the successful implementation of complex IoT applications. We guarantee the reliable, fast implementation of the sensor environment and also develop the optimal M2M interfaces between sensors and machines. In combination with the complete ROBIOTIC package, this cost-effective element can be used to query the current status of a state at any time and from any location in the world.
Optimally networked, these networked sensors, which are used in large quantities, provide mass data on the behavior of people, machines and products. This enables them to detect and measure optimization potentials for machines - for example, when a speed reduction is the solution for excessive material wear on a machine. ROBIOTIC does not limit the measured value recording to its own sensors from Hoffmann + Krippner. The connection of other data sources or sensors to the standardized transmission hardware is also possible without great additional effort.
For the processing of the sensor data we have developed ROSI, our ROBIOTIC Sensor Interface especially for IoT applications. ROSI is a battery-powered or continuously operated IoT gateway system and communicates with our proprietary cloud via an integrated modem equipped with an M2M SIM card. With its stable and robust housing (IP65 rated), ROSI can be used as a gateway for any type of sensor in an industrial environment: e.g. for level monitoring in vending machines, for monitoring applications in flood protection, for door contact detection in remote buildings, as a gateway from an internal bus system to the Internet or for any other application.
